Life is an Improv Comedy Show! Blog

Do you remember what you wanted to be when you were a kid?

You had a dream. You had an image of how you want to be or where you want to be in the future.

Did it become true?

If you can’t remember what you wanted to be when you were a kid, or if you didn’t have one dream profession or goal, take a moment to think about your current work or life in general.

Did everything go 100% as planned?

If it did, congratulations! You lived your dream or you’re now living an ideal story you planned many years ago. So proud of you! If not, congratulations too! It means that you lived your life in a more flexible way, and found new interests, passions and values along the way. That’s awesome!

There’s no right or wrong, better or worse here.

But I think for most of us, including myself, our first childhood dream did not become true and many things didn’t go 100% as planned.

That’s why, for me, it’s important to be present in that moment and attentive to what is going on in our lives now (sometimes leave that mobile phone switched off!), go with the flow and take notice of our instinct or intuition (did you know that many influential leaders rely most on their “gut feeling” when making important decisions?), trust ourselves and our judgment (that’s what education, knowledge and experience is for!) and choose the best option in that moment.

Life is not like creating Theatre where you can plan the entire story and everything goes the way you planned.

Life is like creating an Improv comedy show. You just can’t plan everything!

If you’ve ever been to an Improv comedy show, you know what it’s like. All we have is a theme and a time limit. The rest is unknown. As an Actor, you have to be present, go with the flow and do what’s best in that moment. And not to forget that humor!

And when you go see a show, you don’t go there hoping it will end soon, right? You’re not there for the final ending. You’re there to enjoy it! Same with life! I feel life is an adventure to enjoy, explore the world (both inner and outer!), meet new people, get more experiences and discover who we are and to get to know ourselves even better! And not to take things too seriously and to have fun along the way!

I know. Life and an Improv comedy show is not exactly same. In life, we have bigger fears, struggles and challenges. But in life, we also have bigger excitement, achievements and happiness.

We don’t know what’s going to come along the way in our lives, so let’s play with it (always with good intentions!), see what happens and what kind of reactions we get from the world, trusting the universe.

If somehow things don’t work out well along the way, let’s take it as an opportunity to learn & grow, acquire new skills and become a better version of our selves. And never forget that sense of humor! We’ll need this as we encounter even further new challenges in our life journey. Important Note to self! 1. Trust the Universe. 2. Don’t compare yourself with others. 3. Positive attitude attracts positive things.

And who knows? We might end up finding something even better than expected.

So, what are you waiting for? Your Show is already on!
